Lower Tuckahoe

This new residence was constructed for a family of five with three active boys and family pets. With this dynamic in mind, one focus of the project was to create a large and liveable backyard space that even includes the feature of a sledding hill at the back of the property. This key element of indoor-outdoor living is enhanced through elements that seamlessly blend the indoors and outdoors of the home, including a back porch leading to a terrace in addition to a screened porch. Due to the active nature of the family, careful attention was placed in choosing surfaces within the home that would age favorably. The reclaimed wood floors found throughout are hand tooled to achieve an older, worn appearance that will only be enhanced as time passes. The design also includes other surfaces such as soapstone floors, unlacquered brass door handles, and a painted wood porch floor that will look even better with age. Through these numerous design details, a comfortable home was created to fit the lifestyle and needs of this family.
